Community Development

Meldon Avenue

We moved to Meldon Ave in South Atlanta in February 2009. We immediately felt embraced by our neighbors. The small rental house on the corner quickly became home for our family.

Over the last few years we have supported each other in loss of loved ones, loss of jobs, break-ups, a miscarriage; we have celebrated birthdays, graduations and new babies coming to this world. We feel that we have received much more than we have given.

In early 2011 by God’s miraculous work we were able to purchase a house on Meldon Ave (just a few houses down the street) and set our roots deeper in this beautiful community.

Every Sunday afternoon we host a prayer gathering and Bible study with our neighbors on Meldon Avenue and surrounding streets to support and encourage one another in Christ.

Restorative Justice Board

Andrej is a sworn-in member of the Restorative Justice Board for District 1 of Atlanta, GA. Instead of sending them to jail, municipal court judges can place youth between ages 17-28 that committed smaller offences such as possession, shop lifting, or fighting into this program. The board members take time to interview and get to know the youth and work together with the youth to find ways to reconcile the individual to the community against which the offence was committed.

Unlike criminal justice that asks what laws were broken and who did it, the restorative justice asks who was hurt and how can the offender and the community together find reconciliation.

South Atlanta Civic League

We are involved in our neighborhood association called the South Atlanta Civic League. This collection of neighbors meets on a monthly basis and coordinates various neighborhood events and fight against crime.

Andrej is part of the youth empowerment committee and heads the technology committee.
